INTERMEDIA has a contract research position to offer to either a recent graduate or final year student with a proven interest in text mining and or Education Technology. Common sense thinking coupled to clear analytical thought are key requirements for this position. Applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English as this will be their sole working language. An ability to express oneself clearly and succinctly is a key attribute of the successful applicant.
INTERMEDIA has a particular competency in developing Business Intelligence applications making use of off-the-shelf applications both proprietary and Open Source in nature. We have been retained to assist with research of new potential applications in the education technology field, targeting in particular the primary (ages 6-11), middle (11-13) and early senior (ages 13-15) schools segments. Our client is looking for applications based on data mining in general and text mining in particular. They want the applicant, under the supervision of INTERMEDIA, to conduct extensive research of existing text mining algorithms and determine their suitability and existing deployment record with a view to identify those suitable for incorporation in a new application currently being conceptualised. The applicant will need to report on both technical matters as well as relevant features of the identified algorithms, the search strategy used in identifying such and the code repositories where such can be obtained from. The position is, therefore, requiring good verbal and written communication skills and an ability to identify both existing and upcoming technology/algorithms suitable for the intended applications. Candidates should have a good dose of common sense, be well familiar with the 80:20 Principle, able to work and deliver against set deadlines and particularly apt to understand when to ask for assistance. The position encompasses a discrete and self-contained due diligence part of a product development cycle. Upon completion of this assignment, our client may decide to appoint INTERMEDIA for further discrete development tasks. If so, the successful applicant might be offered – without any guarantees given in this regard – to take on a further assignment accordingly, which assignment will be remunerated on a similar basis.
