Mission
This multi-disciplinary Initial Training Network (ITN) on Inter-institutional Cooperation in the EU (INCOOP) brings together a group of 8 Universities, 3 professional organisations and high-level officials which share an interest in a better understanding of the functioning of institutions in the European system of multi-level governance. The participating Universities are: Maastricht University (coordinator); Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies; Cambridge University, Fondation nationale des Sciences Politiques Paris (Sciences Po); University of Loughborough; Université de Luxembourg; University of Mannheim; University of Osnabrück.
The University of Mannheim offers a pre-doctoral position for the duration of 24 months (maximum), starting in February or March 2012. The position is financed by the European Union within the framework of the People Programme: Initial Training Networks (FP7-PEOPLE-ITN-2008).
The focus of the research is the rapidly evolving field of inter-institutional cooperation within the European system of Multi-level governance.
The main objective of INCOOP is to improve the European career opportunities of young researchers by offering them a coherent academic training programme, complemented with a professional skills training programme and by exposing them to experience on the work-floor through an internship at a professional organisation such as the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA, Maastricht), DLA Piper Brussels and the and Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS, Brussels).
Who is eligible?
a) Nationality
The researcher may be a national of a Member State of the European Union, of an Associated Country or of any other third country.
b) Mobility
The researcher shall not be a national of the State in which the host institution is located. At the time of appointment, the researcher may not have lived or carried out his/her main activity in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her appointment. Application requirements
Applicants need to meet the following requirements:
- a Master’s degree or equivalent (for doctoral researchers) in political science;
- excellent command of the English language;
- be highly motivated;
- and where relevant meet the requirements of the host institution.
Recruitment Procedure
Please provide
- a covering letter including a statement of research interests and motivation, including how this relates to the work of the host institution;
- a detailed curriculum vitae;
- certified copies of diploma / grade list of master degree;
- two letters of recommendation;
- 1 sample of written work.
The selection procedure will also comprise an English language test, unless the candidate’s first language is English or s/he has studied at an English-speaking University (all non-native English candidates have to pass the Academic IELTS – minimum score: 7,5 – or TOEFL Internet-based test – minimum score: 113).
