Title: PhD Scholarship in Machine Learning for Electrical Appliances Identification from Energy Consumption Data.

Location: School of Engineering and Technology, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, UK.

Funding: per annum stipend £14,677 plus tuition fees £4600 (UK/EU students only).

Hours: Full time.

The School of Engineering and Technology of the University of Hertfordshire invites applications for a fully-funded PhD studentship.

The PhD project will focus on the development of new methodologies for the identification of electrical appliances from energy consumption data acquired by smart meters in houses and buildings in order to provide personalized and cost-effective energy saving recommendations.

Signal processing and machine learning techniques will be used and adapted to this task in order to identify appliances signatures under real conditions and in realistic smart meter setups.

Applicants must have a strong background in signal processing and machine learning.

Good programming skills are essential.
