Network Engineer (Voice and Unified Communications), Geneva

Purpose of the Position

To provide support for IP telephony and Unified Communications related projects and maintain the installed systems.

Objectives of the Programme

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

Summary of Assigned Duties

  • Install and configure Voice and Unified Communications (UC) solutions based on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and other Cisco UC products.
  • Assist in other non-Cisco based Voice and UC based projects.
  • Provide maintenance and support of the UC and Networking equipment.
  • Provide support of ICC's and Customer's Voice and UC services, including problem investigation, troubleshooting and problem escalation when needed.
  • Review Voice and UC and network equipment logs and alerts, and take corrective actions where needed.
  • Monitor Voice, UC and network usage and evaluate the performance of the Voice and UC infrastructure.
  • Assist ICC staff on general network and telecommunication related tasks.
  • Prepare documentation where needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

The incumbent will be required to provide 'stand-by' services during weekends and outside normal working hours.

Essential

  • Expert knowledge and skills to design install and configure Cisco Voice and UC solutions based on Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and other Cisco UC products.
  • Sound knowledge of H.323, MGCP, SCCP, SIP and other multimedia protocols, Voice Gateways, Quality-of-Service and Voice and Video Conferencing.
  • Sound technical knowledge of TCP/IP networking and protocols.
  • Ability to manage, configure and troubleshoot Cisco Routers and Switches.
  • Ability to use network management applications such as HP-NNMi and Cisco Prime Collaboration.

Education

Essential

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent professional training or self-study/work experience
  • Cisco CCVP, CCIE Voice, Collaboration or equivalent certifications

Desirable

  • Attendance of Cisco IP Telephony related training courses
  • Attendance of Cisco router or switch related training courses
  • ITIL and PRINCE2 certifications.

Experience

Essential

  • Five years or more of experience in telecommunications and networking, with at least three years hands-on and extensive experience installing, managing and configuring Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) and other Cisco UC products on various hardware platforms.
  • At least three years hands-on experience with installation and configuration of Cisco IOS Voice Gateways, Session Border Controllers and Gatekeepers.
  • Three years or more of experience working in a 7/24 Data Centre environment.

Desirable

  • Two years or more experience in using enterprise network management applications such as HP NNMi and Cisco Prime Collaboration
  • Experience with traditional TDM PBXs.
  • Experience with SIP based PBXs.
  • Experience with Cisco UC integration with Microsoft Lync.
  • Experience with other network equipment and communications

Languages

  • Expert knowledge of English is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of French is required.
