Purpose of the Position
Under the supervision of the Chief Supply Chain Strengthening Centre (SCSC) and working closely with colleagues in SCSC and the Supply Division, the incumbent will lead the development and use of country-level logistics and supply chain strengthening strategies with direct impact on programme results.
The incumbent will use his/her technical knowledge and specialized experience to develop tools, technologies, and structured approaches to analyse and solve country-level logistics and supply chain problems relevant to UNICEF programmes, specialized UN agencies, governments and non-governmental organizations.
The incumbent will also lead the development of training materials to facilitate exchanges of best practices.
Key Expected Results
- evelop models, technologies and tools to analyse, monitor and document performance of select supply chains and distribution networks.
- Recommend strategies and approaches to achieve measurable improvements in overall performance of select supply chains, including warehouse management and distribution networks at the local level.
- Responsible for coordinating the technical support and monitoring of UNICEF country level warehouses.
- Collect and synthesize acquired knowledge, results, and experience for internal and external capacity building of country-level logistics and supply chain professionals.
- Participate in planning, organising and conducting training programmes and knowledge sharing events in logistics and supply chain management with UNICEF country offices, Governments and other partners.
- Contribute to innovation and continuous learning by reviewing emerging technologies, practices and approaches relevant for UNICEF logistics and supply chains.
- Contribute to documentation or publication of empirical case studies, best practices and lessons learned about how targeted interventions in logistics and supply chain strengthening creates value.
- Oversee the definition and development of essential technical supply chain competencies in UNICEF country offices. Develop and maintain a roster of logistics and supply chain specialists among the UNICEF Supply Community and external partners.
- Participate in field missions for specific technical assistance when required.
- Any other duties or assignments as requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
- Advanced university degree, preferably in the area of Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field.*
- Eight years of relevant work experience in logistics and supply chain management in the public or private sector.
- Work experience in international setting and/or development cooperation, including from humanitarian emergency responses is desirable.
- Work experience with applying technologies and the development of modeling of supply chain performance is also an advantage.
- Fluency in English and another UN language.
- A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and 10 years of work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
