Overview:
Reporting to the Technical Team Lead, Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC), the Materials & Corrosion Engineer is a key position within the Facilities Engineering group and will provide technical service, technical development, and support to major capital projects worldwide. Technical service work is performed upon request of the individual business unit and therefore the nature of the work is diverse.
Position Details:
Key Job Responsibilities for these positions:
- Provide materials, corrosion and welding consultancy to downhole, subsea and topsides equipment to assist business units in achieving appropriate reliability and integrity
- Conduct and / or supervise materials failure investigations
- Act as management of change functional reviewer
- Carry out detailed corrosion modeling, monitoring and mitigation assessments and devise & deploy implementation plans
- Provide expertise in corrosion and integrity management in line with Surface Equipment Reliability & Integrity Program (SERIP) guidance
- Supervise detailed corrosion risk assessments to Chevron and local standards
- Review and approve deviations from Chevron Engineering Standards and local design specifications as appropriate,
- Perform fitness for service assessments and recommend appropriate defined life and permanent repair options.
- Coach & mentor less experienced engineers and Horizons engineers
- Contribute or lead efforts in completing development projects to collect data and develop guidelines in support of improving the reliability and performance of materials
- Participate in the planning process to develop new technical development programs.
- Devise and plan technology development programs to address knowledge and technology gaps within Chevron with a view to developing and deploying within Chevron globally, including business units and major capital projcts.
- Review and update Chevron Engineering standards as part of the 5 year standards review cycle
- Lead and participate national and in international standards committees such as ISO, API and the Energy Institute
- Provide materials, corrosion and welding technical expertise in support of Major Capital Projects for downhole & completions, subsea and topsides equipment.
- Ensure appropriate application of Chevron Engineering Standards to major capital projects.
- Review and approve / decline vendor proposed changes to Chevron Engineering Standards
- Critically review vendor / contractor materials, corrosion and welding support work
- Participate in behaviour based safety observations, Operational Excellence program and exhibit Chevron Way behaviours and safety culture
- Proactively participate in the development of standards and sharing of key technical knowledge within individual workgroups, teams and business customers
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Demonstrable industry experience, likely gained over a 5-10 year period in a similar role in the Oil & Gas Industry
- Engineering Degree or other relevant discipline.
- Significant Metallurgy, Corrosion and Welding Engineering expertise and a desire to be a consultant.
- Likely to be a Chartered engineer registered with the Engineering Council
- Excellent technical and engineering judgement skills by adhering to technical international codes and standards
- Ability to interpret these standards and to understand when and how to deviate appropriately and consistently
- Good communication, organisation and persuasion skills
- A good level of leadership and autonomy
