Job Description
The Risk group is responsible for overseeing the trading activity, implementing metrics that quantify related performance and risk, and reporting relevant statistics and analysis to Trading, various Control groups and Management. It is also responsible for analyzing, evaluating and approving structured transactions conceived by the Business Development and Origination teams.
With around the world activities and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the Noble Grains & Oilseeds team covers mainly corn, wheat and the soy complex. Noble is seeking a Market Risk Manager with experience in the above markets. Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the successful candidate’s responsibilities will be to:
- Oversee the trading activity with the help and services of our Product Control in Finance in the same location
- Manage, develop and motivate the Market Risk Analysts (2) based in Geneva
- Form and communicate the Grains & Oilseeds state of affairs to the Chief Risk Officer, Head of Trading and senior management
- Work with global peers within the Risk group to ensure that consistent controls, systems and processes are in place across the teams.
- Ensure that all P&L and VaR movements are fully understood, reconciling how market movements and trading strategies have interacted to create the changes observed.
- Use market knowledge to understand and explain commercial activities and strategies. Measure and provide insights into the commercial performance.
- Manage the daily relationship with key stakeholders, including, Front Office, Operations, Finance including Product Control and IT.
- Improve the risk analysis we perform on our trading activities by envisioning and introducing appropriate risk metrics.
- Perform historical/fundamental analysis that can help in the evaluation of trades and trading portfolios.
- Create analytical tools and models that automate our processes
- Oversee any origination activity from a Risk point of view, including: a) modeling, valuing and risk-assessing structured transactions; b) providing assistance to the originators and traders in improving suggested structures and complex deals; c) the review and approval of such transactions
- Respond to ad-hoc queries from the trading desk and other areas and provide real time support
- Help define and implement policy.
Requirements:
The candidate must cover satisfactorily most of the areas below. He/she will need:
- Ten years of experience in risk management, specifically in agricultural commodities.
- To understand position management and price risk for a physical commodities book.
- The ability to respond to any trading issues identified by traders or senior management. Given that this may necessitate analysis and presentation of the issue, he/she should be articulate and comfortable when discussing potential areas of concern with senior management of both Front Office and Risk Management.
- To be a self starter
- To have exposure to trading for a good part of his/her career (worked with traders or traded)
In addition, we have a preference for:
- Strong quantitative and programmatic abilities (Excel/VBA are highly desired. R and C# are desirable).The desire for this skill set is due to the expectation that one understands and actively contributes to analysis and establishes tools for such analysis.
- Knowledge of financial engineering: understanding of derivatives, futures, etc. as well as how these products trade on the relevant markets.
- Advanced degree in Sciences
