Basic Function:
The Manager, Operational Excellence is responsible for supporting and developing elements of the company-wide Operational Excellence Management System in the Europe, Asia and International footprint. This includes standards and related auditing activities to drive performance improvement and ensure compliance with requirements. Additionally, this position leads operational excellence, regulatory compliance and other types of audits. This position interacts with facility and senior management regarding conformance and continuous improvement opportunities. These activities require a strong reliance on a background in manufacturing and/or health, safety and environmental (HSE) to bring value-added improvements in the execution of the management system. This position is located in Rotterdam and reports to the Global Operational Excellence & Process Safety Director.
Job Specifications:
A successful candidate has a strong operations background in manufacturing, petrochemical or refining, and strong knowledge of HSE principles. Strong candidates will feel comfortable working with colleagues at all levels of the organization, including site leadership and senior managers, to influence change within the organization. Successful candidates are able to manage a high volume of assignments with compressed deadlines, and can perform with grace under pressure. The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively with peers to continually develop new skills while demonstrating their current skillset. Additionally, candidates should possess the work history and interpersonal skill to navigate a complex organization.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and mentor the EAI Operational Excellence audit managers & the Knowledge Sharing manager, as well as assist in the development of HSE professionals across the Europe, Asia and International footprint;
- Provide organizational leadership to create and improve on the Operational Excellence processes, including the development of the Operational Excellence Management System within business units and at manufacturing facilities;
- Work with the Operational Excellence team, lead and support the development, implementation and maintenance of a Company-wide audit program focused on the identification and understanding of significant gaps between current operations and the Company standards, driving continuous improvement;
- Lead the advancement of the Operational Excellence culture throughout the Company via communication, recognition, education and assistance;
- Support the development, review and revision of Operational Excellence Standards and work processes that are used to drive continuous improvement towards operational excellence;
- Lead interdisciplinary teams of 6 to 18 people for the larger and more complex audits, including senior manufacturing and technical support staff managers in operations, maintenance, HSE and technical fields, on operational excellence audits of our facilities. Communicate effectively and objectively with facility management and staff;
- Work with the manufacturing site teams, ensuring that the Operational Excellence Special Emphasis programs are understood and included in the Long Range Plans and actualized by the sites;
- Coordinate with Internal Audit, Quality, Supply Chain, and JVs to align OE support and minimize overlaps;
- Represent the Director of Operational Excellence and Process Safety, regularly meet with the SVP of Manufacturing in Europe, Asia and International and his staff to provide feedback on Operational Excellence issues;
- Provide support to the Director of Europe, Asia and International HSE.
Qualifications:
- A University degree in engineering, or equivalent, with a minimum of 12 years of chemical or refining manufacturing experience preferred;
- Substantial knowledge of chemical, processing or refining plant maintenance, operations and/or HSE. Experience in other functional areas is also desirable;
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including executive management;
- Ability to lead through influence, and manage and direct an audit team;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Business focus to ensure value adding activities are captured and implemented.
