Requirements
- Bachelor - Master's or PhD degree in petrophysics, geology or petroleum engineering.
- Attain expert-level proficiency and knowledge of conventional and special core analysis techniques, Special Core Analysis data interpretation and editing.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in rock physics related projects directly related to quantification of core and rock properties and integration with other subsurface data (e.g. Log/ core, seismic, geomechanical data).
- Knowledge of basic geological concepts of sedimentation, burial history, and pore pressure and their impact on rock properties such as porosity, permeability, fracturing.
- Knowledge of rock properties and their use in and derivation through basin modeling.
- Understanding the basics of well logging and sensitivities of various wireline measurements.
- Familiar with commercial petrophysical /core analysis software(s).
- Effective communicator and team player.
- Excellent presentation skills with good command of English language (writing, reading and listening).
- Able to work under strict project timelines.
Functions and duties
The Reservoir Characterization Team and the Petrophysics / Geomechanics Lab at the Repsol Technology Center (CTR), in Madrid is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of a senior Core Analyst who can perform conventional and special core analyses to characterize the static and dynamic properties of reservoir. Suitable candidates should have past experience in:
- Conventional Core Analysis (including running core gamma, fluid saturations by retort and Dean Stark analysis, gas permeability, porosity and grain density, with associated sample preparation and wellsite services.
- Special Core Analysis (involved in all areas of SCAL conducting measurements, supervision and report compilation)
- Providing training in the theoretical and practical aspects of Conventional and Special Core Analysis.
Key responsibilities
- Day to day running of Conventional and Special Core Analysis, under strict compliance with company policies and operating procedures, to generate information related to:
- Porosity, permeability, and relative permeability determination
- Electrical properties
- Capillary pressure
- Formation damage
- NMR
- Wettability
- EOR and flow studies etc.
- SCAL data evaluation, report writing, marketing, budget forecasting, client liaison.
- QA wellsite and conventional core analyses data.
- Responsible for data evaluation, report writing, laboratory operation, analysis scheduling also responsible for the creation of the administrative framework for a Quality Assurance System compliant with Repsol´s HSE standard.
- Write a detailed QA manual and put in place all the necessary documentation to ensure Quality Control checks could be implemented.
- Core sample handling (in lab or at Well site sample selection, opening, labelling, and preservation).
- Be familiar with and be able to utilise laboratory instruments effectively.
