Job Description
The Senior Technical Service Engineer will be responsible for leading alkylation technical service activities, including grassroots startup support, training, unit inspections, troubleshooting, etc. This position is expected to develop as an expert in the field of alkylation and provide support to all aspects of the alkylation licensing and aftermarket businesses. This position is also expected to actively participate in efforts to improve the offerings of these businesses, including new product development and improvements to the STRATCO® alkylation technology. As a technical leader, this position is also expected to mentor and develop new engineers.
Essential Job Functions
There are three primary job functions of this role:
Alkylation Technical Services
- Lead unit inspections for grassroots alkylation units
- Lead grassroots alkylation unit startups
- Develop and deliver operator training
- Provide troubleshooting support
- Lead unit optimization studies
- Perform quality reviews of technical service deliverables
- Provide on-going support for Technical Service Agreements (TSAs)
- Serve as a resource to the organization responsible for marketing technical service offerings
- Serve as a mentor for technical service engineers
Grassroots Alkylation Projects
- Support the development of grassroots alkylation proposals by reviewing yield and product quality predictions
- Support internal and customer PFD and P&ID Reviews
- Support HAZOPs and SIL Reviews
- Develop, review, and improve Operating Principles
- Serve as a mentor for process engineers
Technology Improvements
- Use commercial data to validate tools used for prediction of yield and product property data.
- Support the R&D efforts of the STRATCO® alkylation technology
- Develop tools and standards to improve work processes
- Participate in reviews to improve the STRATCO® alkylation process
- Support the development and evaluation of new products
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the refining industry with at least 5 years of relevant experience in the sulfuric acid alkylation technology. The candidate must be customer oriented, well organized, computer literate, and possess good oral and written communication skills. Interfacing with organizations and customers of various nationalities will be required. Previous experience in customer-facing roles is desirable.
Travel: This position may spend > 50% of the time traveling internationally. Extended travel periods of greater than 1 month should be expected occasionally.
