The Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE) is a not-for-profit think tank with a focus on independent analysis and knowledge dissemination, supporting evidence-based policy making in the field of energy performance of buildings.
BPIE’s mission is to improve the energy performance of buildings by:
Supporting the development of ambitious - yet pragmatic - buildings-related policies and programs at EU and member state level;
Driving timely and efficient implementation by teaming-up with relevant stakeholders;
Providing fact based analysis and knowledge, and sharing best practice globally through our network.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Executive Director, the roles and responsibilities as Senior Expert/Team Leader are:
Lead a team of projects managers, research assistants and interns to deliver in-depth analysis on buildings energy performance at large;
Produce a wide range of written outputs including high-quality, well targeted research papers, reports and studies;
Manage BPIE’s contribution to EU-funded projects (under IEE, FP7 and Horizon 2020 frameworks), from proposal preparation to the completion of the projects (incl. involved team’s work management);
Deliver high-quality technical content and build good relationships with partners through-out the delivery of projects;
Develop and deliver presentations for BPIE’s own and external events. Debate complex technical and policy issues related to the energy performance of buildings at high-level events;
With the insight of the Executive Director and the Board, proactively develop and propose develop new projects by identifying opportunities at European and Members states level;
Manage third party suppliers, in particular consultants.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree (or higher) in relevant discipline, such as engineering, physics, etc.;
Proven skills in Programmes Management and in People Management;
Excellent knowledge on EU and Member states climate change and energy policies, with a particular focus on building energy efficiency, financing, data analysis and modelling, energy performance indicators, renewable energy and EPCs;
Experience in liaising with stakeholder from both private sector and government/EU institutions;
Strong network with international building energy efficiency experts from academia and industry;
Proven experience in writing studies, reports and papers;
Proven experience in developing and delivering high-quality technical presentations;
Successful project submission and execution of EU-funded projects.
PERSONAL SKILLS
Ability to work to tight deadlines, and experience in managing external consultants;
Willingness to work in small, multicultural team and to be a pro-active and constructive team player and team leader;
Ability and interest to coach and support junior team members;
Creative thinker and innovative researcher;
A minimum of 8 years of professional relevant experience;
Excellent writing and oral communication skills;
Fluency in English, and good knowledge of at least another European language;
Ability and willingness to travel, primarily in Europe.

CONDITIONS

After 6 months and an evaluation of the delivered work, the successful candidate might be promoted as Head of Research.
