For our Engineering department in Norway, we are looking for a candidate for the position as Principal Engineer Piping and Layout. The position reports to SVP Engineering and will take an active part in BW Offshore’s work related to bid and feed studies, projects and technical support for our FPSOs in operation.

Key tasks:

  • Participate in all phases of Projects from concept development, tender, bids, FEEDs, construction, commissioning, execution, modification to completion;
  • Participate in designing the FPSO, including:
    • Oversee piping tasks and technical aspects;
    • Prepare 2D and/or 3D layouts using company software;
    • Design and review piping and equipment layout documents, drawings and 3D models with consideration to all relevant disciplines;
    • Maintain relevant knowledge of different piping codes and standards such as ASME, DIN, NORSOK etc.;
    • Ensure the design meets regulatory, class, client and corporate requirements;
    • Develop material take-off and cost input for Piping and Layout discipline;
    • Give input to the master equipment list;
    • Perform piping stress analysis.
  • Participate in and actively contribute to Piping and Layout discipline activities and provide input to develop and maintain company engineering standards and best practices within the field;
  • Coordinate, plan and schedule Piping and Layout activities to ensure a logical sequence and timely preparation, review and revision of all related documents, as well as check and/or approve deliverables from the discipline, and assure schedule and quality are attained;
  • Actively contribute to the development of relevant RFQ’s for module yards, integration yards, newbuild shipyards and equipment packages and prepare technical bid evaluations (input);
  • Follow-up design development, construction and testing activities;
  • Review vendor documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements;
  • Proactively support and cooperate with all engineering disciplines to achieve optimal design results, including relevant input and comments to other discipline deliveries;
  • Work closely with and actively support supply chain, estimation, planning and other project teams;
  • Review and approve deliverables from suppliers and contractors;
  • Provide technical clarifications towards clients, sub suppliers, class and yard;
  • Liaise with class, regulator and client for the submission of documents;
  • Support Technical Maintenance and Support team, Operation Managers and offshore units as and when required, including visiting Units in operation as needed for technical support and troubleshooting;
  • Act as a mentor and resource for new employees, less experienced colleagues and consultants;
  • The experienced Principal Engineer Piping and Layout may fill the role of Piping and Layout Lead in projects based on competence and availability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Long relevant experience may replace formal education;
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within the shipping and offshore industry;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience within the FPSO industry.
