The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Conventional Safety Engineer.
Description of directorate/division
The Systems Engineering Division (SE-Division) is organizationally located in the Machine Directorate. The SE-Division is responsible for establishing the overall framework and procedures for the management of the ESS technical processes, and for orchestrating the application of the technical processes through all lifecycle phases. The SE-Division supports the development of a cohesive technical baseline and ensure the integrity and flow-down of top level requirements. The SE-Division is responsible for developing and maintaining the technical baseline at the ESS level.
Description of main responsibilities
As the Conventional Safety Engineer you are responsible for breaking down and updating safety requirements on systems, subsystems and components according to ESS Safety Objectives, applicable regulation and the ESS SE process. You will support designers for safety integration (characterizes safety criterias, provides guidelines, explains safety approach and constraints, identifies safety studies, performs safety studies, tracks safety performances ) in close collaboration with the Environment, Safety and Health division.
Qualifications
- Master of Science in engineering or equivalent;
- Skills in conventional safety, industrial hazards, risk assessment and associated methodology (HAZOP, FMEA, ..) are mandatory;
- Experience in the implementation of safety activities within nuclear facility (project or in operation) is requested, as well as knowledge of European directives and international standards;
- Experience within an international project is a plus but not a prerequisite;
- Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite; knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
