Description of the job
For Airbus Defence and Space in Munich/Ottobrunn within the area “Optical Systems” for the department “Optical Systems MICs” we are looking for an Optical Design and Analysis Engineer (m/f).
Tasks & accountabilities
In this role you will work on optical design activities that are dedicated to instruments and/or subsystems such as spectrometers, interferometers, high resolution spectral cameras and LIDAR systems. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Defining optical concepts for Earth observation instruments and performing the related optical engineering tasks up to verification
- Performing optical design and analysis, as well as the related optical performance modelling and simulation (typically including optical design, stray light, polarisation, etc.), opto-mechanical tolerance and stability analysis
- Performing the optical requirement definition, breakdown and budgeting of optical subsystems, considering optical performance parameters
- Ensuring concept trade-offs and feasibility analyses, considering manufacturability, alignment and accuracy aspects, costs and/or procurement sources of components/equipment, space compatibility and technological readiness
Required skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills:
- Hold a degree in Optical Engineering or an equivalent discipline (e.g. Physics) plus a good understanding of design and the related opto-mechanical aspects
- Extensive knowledge of the optical design of instruments (Code V, Zemax, ASAP, FRED)
- Dedicated expertise in optical instrument hardware, supplier capabilities and AIV/AIT
- Good interpersonal skills and team player skills in multi-disciplinary projects
- Customer-oriented mind-set
- Good communication skills and convincing presentation skills
- Experience handling multiple priorities whilst working to tight deadlines
- A fluent/negotiation level of German and English
