Reader/Chair In Chemical Engineering

Job Summary

The School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen seeks to appoint a Reader/Chair in Chemical Engineering to strengthen its research and teaching in Chemical Engineering. We invite applications from individuals with established expertise in any area of Chemical Engineering, an excellent research track record (commensurate with career stage), outstanding communication skills and the desire and ability to teach well at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Appointment to Chair requires evidence of strong leadership, especially in research, and an outstanding record of achievement. Appointees will join a research-intensive School of Engineering engaged in fundamental and applied research across the Engineering disciplines. 83% of the School’s research output was ranked as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008).

Criteria

PhD in area of Chemical Engineering (or equivalence through industry experience and achievement);
Good knowledge of the Chemical Engineering academic discipline through undergraduate and postgraduate study, and preferably through work with industry;
Detailed knowledge of at least one main area of Chemical Engineering as a result of advanced study and research;
Wide knowledge of the Chemical Engineering industry, research needs and directions;
Outstanding record of internationally recognised academic and/or industry-based research in an area of chemical engineering, evidenced by, for example, high quality publications in journals of the highest international standing and a history of success in attracting substantial external grant income;
Excellent networking skills in order to develop strong relationships with industry partners and with academics and researchers from other institutions;
Experience of working with industry and of applying research to industrial problems;
Experience in the development of taught courses at undergraduate or postgraduate level, or equivalent experience in industry;
Excellent communication and leadership skills in order to provide academic leadership in teaching and research in the area of Chemical Engineering;
Ability to contribute, professionally and otherwise, to the life of the School and the University, and to relate well to staff and students.
