Project Researcher (Materials Science)
The Department of Materials Science (DMS) conducts internationally high-quality research on all materials based on strong interdisciplinary fundamental research. DMS is the core unit at TUT in the field of Materials Science and maintains close collaborations with other TUT departments that conduct research in fields relevant to the study of materials. DMS is currently teaching over 500 students and giving almost all M.Sc. courses in English. The Department employs about 130 people, including 10 professors of which 2 are tenured professors. DMS is an international unit with a growing number of foreign students, researchers, staff and international projects.
The Department offers high-quality basic infrastructure for materials research and teaching. Our infrastructure actively developed in response to future needs in the field. Our teaching and research is widely recognized within industry and the national and international scientific community. The cornerstone of our strategy is active collaboration with companies, which contributes to our very high percentage, 70 %, of supplementary funding and ensures that our graduates have excellent employment prospects in industry. The growing amount of research funding awarded by the Academy of Finland and the increasing number of peer-reviewed articles authored by our faculty members testify to the quality of our fundamental research that cuts across disciplinary boundaries. Our activities are aligned with the University’s strategic goals in the areas of industrial competitiveness, energy- and eco-efficiency and digital operating environment.
