Role synopsis
The Plant Manager is responsible for the overall performance, direction, and execution of operations within the Antwerp plant and associated warehouse. The Plant Manager establishes a vision and objectives for the Plant that are aligned with the goals of the GSC and business partners that establish core and priority areas of focus for HSSE, Quality, Integrity Management and Costs optimization within the plant.
Key accountabilities
- The Plant Manager reports to the regional Manufacturing Manager and is accountable for the overall performance, direction, and execution of operations within the Antwerp plant and associated warehouse;
- Lead, coach, develop and motivate plant personnel;
- Take part of the Work Counsel and labour negotiations;
- Manage the plant in the daily operational manufacture and delivery of products;
- Accountable for all Manufacturing, On-site Warehousing activities including HSSE, Quality, Integrity Management, Production Planning, Raw Materials Inventory, Compliance and KPI driven performance improvement;
- Legal accountability for the site and operations (customs, safety, security, environment, social, H&S works council, etc.) towards the authorities on behalf of CEO of BP Europa;
- Sponsors OPEX initiatives within the plant to engage the workforce on opportunities to reduce waste;
- Manage relationship with external service providers to improve plant safety and efficiencies;
- Network with other plant managers within GSC Manufacturing Envelope for sharing best practices;
- Recruitment of new staff when required. Manage the head count as required by plant throughput, if necessary with temporary staff;
- Embedding Safety Culture by change management and constant focus on Safety, Quality, Service & Costs;
- Motivate the staff through: putting the right man on the right place, delegation of responsibilities to the lowest practical level, coaching, an objective staff appraisal system, determination of training needs and ensuring the training plan is implemented;
- Ensure the correct mentality and attitude of staff as regards housekeeping, safety, quality and productivity. The adherence to safety standards and the safety performance of the different teams falls under the direct responsibility of the job holder;
- To create an atmosphere such that BLP- Antwerp is “a great place to work with”;
- Continuously strive to improve plant operations to maximize efficiency and effectiveness;
- Achieving the service levels and safety measures;
- To facilitate & drive continuous improvement on the production processes;
- Ensures compliance (legal and other) to all regulatory requirements with respect to manufacturing operations;
- Continuously improve the performance of the plants by means of improvement of hardware, works methods and organization.
Essential Education
- Graduate – chemical or mechanical engineer preferred but other disciplines considered with relevant experience.
Essential experience and job requirements
- Broad supply chain management experience, preferably broad understanding of plant and technical management;
- Strong knowledge of safety management systems;
- Experience and good skills in the area of leadership, training, human relations, industrial relations, organizational development of personnel, including coaching and training staff in new methods and procedures;
- Good knowledge of production management and its measurements;
- Analytical skill and sound financial understanding;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with teams and networks and influence at many levels in the organization;
- At least 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment preferred in a Supply Chain management role.

- Good written and verbal communication skills (English essential);
- Strong skills in managing/interacting with divergent internal and external contacts;
- Strong skills in problem solving and anticipate and manage changes as well as tensions.
