Job description

Responsibility and leadership for the safe operations and maintenance of EDF Energy’s Gas Storage Facility site, ensuring that safety, environmental, availability, reliability and efficiency, operating cost and capital project targets are met. 
 
To manage the health and safety aspects of a top tier major hazard site in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements and create and maintain a “Zero Harm” culture. Manage the environment, customer, people, finance, commercial, operations, maintenance and quality processes.
 
To provide a reliable delivery for gas movements to and from the facility in accordance with requirements agreed with EDF Energy.

Profile sought

  • To ensure that the top tier major hazard facility is operated in full accordance with health, safety and environmental regulatory requirements.
  • To maintain regular liaison with the regulatory authorities.
  • To establish and maintain an effective Safety Management System.
  • To develop a vigorous and questioning SHE culture amongst the staff and regular contract personnel working on the establishment.
  • To ensure that the EDF Energy Branch Board are kept fully informed of SHE matters on the site and the HSE policy statements are complied with.
  • The health and safety of all employees and contractors on site.
  • Ensuring environmental compliance of the assets operations.
  • Formulation of operating, maintenance and investment plans which meet the strategic need of Coal, Gas and Renewables.  Develop budget and medium term financial projects to underpin these plans.
  • Responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of the asset and appropriate work programmes to ensure acceptable performance targets are met and sustained
  • Responsible for the commercial management of contracts with key suppliers for outsourced operations and provision of services, including any project related activity.  Liaise with Supply Chain to negotiate and implement such key contracts.
  • To develop and maintain operating and maintenance systems that provide a very high level of availability of the storage facility for the commercial gas movements required by EDF Energy. To provide accurate and testing estimates of the system capabilities to maximise the opportunities for the commercial utilisation of the facility. To deliver the agreed commercial gas movements. To provide accurate data on gas stocks and movements.
  • Implement organisational and behavioural change which meet the changing demands of the business. Ensure the organisational capability is matched to the strategic needs of the business
  • Work effectively across EDF Group to leverage its capabilities to maximise value to the Coal, Gas and Renewables business and the wider Group.
  • Contribute as a key member of the Coal, Gas and Renewables Leadership Team in the formulation of the Coal, Gas and Renewables strategy.  Provide vision and leadership for the asset and more widely across Coal, Gas and Renewables engaging, uniting and gaining commitment  from employees to the aims of the organisation
  • Contribute as a member of EDF Energy’s Generation Senior Leadership Team.
  • Manage and motivate employees using effective communication and personal drive to generate high performance levels in the face of a challenging people environment
  • Continually challenge the status quo to identify opportunities for improvement and success and create an environment that encourages expression of new ideas and creative solutions
  • To comply with EDF Energy/HR policies and procedures.
  • Manage the development and training of employees working within Gas Storage, ensuring adequate training to meet compliance requirements.
  • Own and manage all business processes within Gas Storage ensuring:
    • all relevant business risks including legal, regulatory and policy compliance are identified, assessed, recorded and managed through appropriate internal controls
    • a regular review of process and controls results in the identification and implementation of improvements to quality, speed, risk mitigation and control
  • Demonstrate commitment on corporate and social responsibility issues
  • To control and account for site expenditure in accordance with the agreed operational and capital expenditure budgets. To anticipate expenditure and prepare realistic budget proposals.
  • To ensure that the asset capability of the facility is maintained and developed to provide highly reliable long term storage and gas movement capabilities.
  • To communicate a regular stream of management information to EDF Energy to ensure that the Company management team are kept informed of all pertinent matters relating to the operations on the site.
  • To provide routine management system reports.

Qualifications

  • Previous managerial experience on chemical/oil/gas installations involving operational responsibilities plus UK health and safety systems experience with a regulated technically high risk environment.
  • Relevant technical/engineering degree.
  • Member of appropriate professional engineering institution and Chartered Engineer or equivalent significant work experience indicating previous technical responsibilities and competence.
  • Good communication skills
  • Technical report preparation
  • Prior technical management experience within a highly regulated environment
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment
