Grontmij are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to lead the on-shore wind farm infrastructure team and assist with the provision of a multi-disciplinary consultancy service for Grontmij’s contractor, developer and utility clients.
The role will involve:
- Overseeing the design of civil infrastructure including wind farm access and layout, public road improvements and sustainable drainage;
- Coordinating inter-office/department geotechnical and structural resource;
- Project managing the design aspects of multiple live projects from concept and tender phase through to construction;
- The successful candidate will also represent Grontmij’s on-shore wind farm business to internal and external clients and assist in winning new work.
The role is based in our Edinburgh office, however the successful candidate may also be required to work from our Glasgow Office or on site for short periods as required to suit project requirements.
Outline of role
- Lead the primary wind farm team and oversee the production of design packages for concept, tender and detailed phase relating to:
- Wind farm infrastructure layout and access track geometry with consideration of build-ability, turbine supplier standards and environmental constraints;
- Wind farm concept design for environmental impact assessment purposes;
- Bridge and retaining structure wall geometry considering structural form and flooding levels;
- Catchment assessments, culvert hydraulic design including CAR authorisation;
- Develop wind farm sustainable drainage concepts and details consulting with EA or SEPA where necessary;
- Develop public highway improvement concepts and detailed design for turbine component delivery including road authority consultation and road construction consent submission.
- Coordination of geotechnical and structural design strands to assist in the provision of Grontmij’s core multi-disciplinary design service covering site investigation, geotechnical assessment of turbine foundations, material reusability, turbine foundation design, control building design and construction monitoring and quality assurance;
- Preparation of design scope. Estimating and negotiation of fee value with clients;
- Oversee preparation of tender submission packages including multi-disciplinary design statements and presentation drawings;
- Management of team resources and control multiple project budgets including monthly invoicing;
- Coordinating review of consultancy agreement terms and conditions.
Qualifications required
Chartered Civil Engineer preferable, BEng, MEng will be considered.
Experience required
- Civil infrastructure design experience with good technical knowledge within own expertise area;
- Good organisational and project management skills required to manage multiple live projects. Knowledge and experience in the specification of construction materials including on-site testing;
- Multi-disciplinary knowledge relating to geotechnical and structural design or construction is desirable or an interest to expand own multi-disciplinary knowledge;
- Experience of trunk road and local road standards is desirable;
- Experience of hydraulic modelling and greenfield flow estimatiuon is desirable;
- Experince leading geometrical design is desirable;
- Expereince in sustainable drainage design is desirable;
- Experience in the delivery of design packages and obtaining statutory or third party approval.
