Based at either our Liverpool or Southampton sites, you will: Apply Semantic Web technologies, such as Linked Data and related technologies, to network environmental data centres. Provide technical leadership and expertise in marine data management. Collaborate with the marine data community, secure funding and deliver projects to network data centres and make data discoverable. Some national and international travel will be required for this role. The appointment is offered as a permanent position on NERC terms and conditions. Salary: £31,330 to £37,875 per annum, depending on experience. About you: To be successful in this role you will have: In depth understanding of Semantic Web technologies and how they can be applied to oceanographic data. Knowledge and interest in both environmental science and in operational technologies developed in computer science. A track record of innovation and delivery. A PhD in a related discipline, such as marine, environmental or data science with a strong emphasis on data management and analysis. Compelling presentation skills. The British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) is the IOC-designated UK data management centre for oceanographic data. As part of the National Oceanographic Centre (NOC), we are a national facility supporting the national and international marine science communities. We are responsible for the long term curation and availability of oceanographic data. We are at the forefront of managing and disseminating large, complex marine data sets. Increasingly, we are working with other organisations in the international arena such as SeaDataNet, Ocean Data Interoperability Platform (ODIP) and the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange's (IODE) to create a global network of interoperable data centres providing seamless discovery and delivery capability for marine science data.
