Tyndall National Institution and University College Cork and the SFI funded Research Center in Photonic integration (IPIC) funds a PhD position on growth of advanced III-V nanostructures for telecom applications.
We are seeking highly self-motivated applicants with strong experimental attitude to apply for this position.
The research will focus on developing and understanding recently discovered InP “aggregation” self-assembled nanostructure growth and its extension to the InGaAs system.
Tackled applications range from semiconductor optical amplifiers, tuneable lasers, OCT etc.
The successful applicant will be working mostly on exploring epitaxial recipes, microscopy sample characterization, and optical spectroscopy.
Description
In a second stage of the project, the candidate will also be involved in device design and cleanroom processing, acquiring important skills and working on cutting edge technology solutions.
These studies will provide an excellent base for a career both in academia and in the high-value industry.
Epitaxy and Physics of Nanostructures was established in January 2007 at Tyndall National Institute (http://www.tyndall.ie) under an SFI (http://www.sfi.ie/home/index.asp) Principal Investigator grant. The group is led by Dr. E. Pelucchi.
Requirements
The minimum academic qualification is a first or upper second class honours degree (or an equivalent international degree) in physics, electronic engineering or related relevant discipline.
Please apply via www.tyndall.ie/career/search, selecting reference number EP-17 and following the instructions to complete the associated application form, attaching your cv and motivation letter.
Please also email or send (max 500 kB) a CV with the address of at least one reference to:
