Research Scientist

The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zurich is the federal agency responsible for monitoring earthquakes in Switzerland and its neighbouring countries and for assessing Switzerland’s seismic hazard. The activities of the SED are integrated in the federal program for earthquake risk reduction. We are looking for an enthusiastic

Research Scientist

The core duties of the research scientist include: improving regional ground-motion prediction equations for earthquakes by including realistic sources and complex structural models, the development of stochastic methods and models to describe uncertainties. The successful candidate will be part of a team dedicated to engineering seismology.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Seismology, Physics, Geophysics, Engineering Seismology or a related Engineering discipline with strong background in physics, and experience in stochastic simulations of ground motion, ground-motion prediction equations, and in engineering seismology. Excellent programming and communication skills are a prerequisite, as is fluency in English. Knowledge of German would be regarded positively. We expect a team-oriented and motivated candidate. The position should be filled by May 1, 2015 (negotiable). The duration of the position will be for 3 years, with possibility of extension.
