The Unit

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) seeks a Head for a new Tissue Engineering Facility. The facility will provide services of: 1) Isolation of embryonic stem cells, generation of iPS cells and induction of their differentiation; 2) use of ES/iPS cells to study gene functions and disease processes by genome editing technologies; 3) and 3D cell culture and organoid formation. The Unit will also test, implement, and develop new related applications that are of relevance to the CRG and its lines of research.

The role of Head of Tissue Engineering Facility Unit

The mission of the Head of the Unit will be to manage the core facility both scientifically and administratively. It is expected that the candidate has expertise in the offered techniques and that she/he participates with hands-on work at least in the initial phase of the facility. Responsibilities of the position include communication with users, project planning and budget management, drafting project cost estimates and coordinating the work of staff conducting service projects and technology development. It is the Unit Head’s responsibility to ensure that the services offered by the Unit are kept state-of-the-art, to ensure efficient use of resources, and to define a strategy for new application developments based on the scientific directions and future requirements of the CRG/PRBB. Additionally, the Unit Head is expected to offer tutorials and courses to the scientific community. Establishing fluent communication with researchers and collaborating with other Core Facilities in the Institute will be essential.

Requirements

Studies:

  • PhD in science.

Experience:

  • Required significant experience in team management.

Technical skills required:

  • Knowledge of common protocols for isolation and generation of ES and iPS cells, and experience with 3D cell cultures;
  • Knowledge of genome editing technologies.

Soft skills:

  • Service-orientation and keen interest in the further developing protocols and applications is essential;
  • Capability to easily interact with people of different scientific backgrounds and in a multicultural environment;
  • Ability to influence, develop and communicate effectively with the team.

Languages:

  • Mandatory fluent level of English.

  • Duration: Open-ended contract with a probation period and subject to periodical external evaluations;
  • Estimated annual gross salary: A competitive salary will be provided, which will be well matched relative to the cost of living in Barcelona, and adjusted according to experience;
