Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head, Maintenance Unit, Monitoring Facilities Support Section, International Monitoring Systems Division, to:
- Organize and implement maintenance activities for facilities of the International Monitoring System (IMS), including corrective and preventive maintenance, overhauls, replacements, and coordination with equipment providers, station operators, and other contractors.
- IMS station troubleshooting, conduct on-site visits to inspect, maintain or repair installations as needed, and prepare related reports;
- In coordination with Logistics Support staff, track equipment downtime, problem history, and provide support to sustain IMS stations; assist in the evaluation of station performance, including review, preliminary evaluation, classification of reports and upkeep of station records;
- Provide input into the establishment of contractual arrangements and agreements with designated institutions in host countries and other institutions for services required to sustain IMS facilities;
- Support the development and implementation of procedures for the reliable operation, maintenance and overall sustainment of IMS facilities, including the development and review of station specific technical documentation;
- Liaise with government officials in countries that host IMS facilities on matters relating to the maintenance and support of IMS stations;
- Prepare information and present material for the IMS technical training programme and workshops;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- University degree in electrical engineering, system engineering, geophysics, nuclear science/engineering or a related field;
- At least five years relevant working experience in data acquisition systems; computer technology, computer interfacing and networking, communication technology, power systems; Experience in maintenance of installations in harsh/remote environments and of computer-based systems, preferably in a UNIX environment; Work experience within national or international monitoring networks is desirable;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.

Remuneration/Contract
CTBTO offers an attractive remuneration package with competitive pay and benefits. The level of pay for internationally recruited staff is set within scales comparable to United Nations salaries. The indicative annual net base for this particular post includes a starting tax free salary of US$ 56,198 (single rate) and US$ 60,205 (dependency rate), plus a variable Post Adjustment which stands at 53.7% for Vienna, Austria (at the time of publication). The post adjustment is reviewed from time in line with the provisions that apply to staff in other comparable International Organizations.
Additional benefits attached to the post include, where applicable, dependency allowance, education grant, rental subsidy, six weeks annual leave and home leave travel every two years. The salary offered is subject to deductions of contributions to the CTBTO Provident Fund and Health Insurance Scheme.
