We are seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to join one of our multi-disciplinary Building Engineering London design teams, to work on a variety of projects in sectors ranging from industry, healthcare, residential, commercial and financial services. This role will involve the design of energy generation and distribution systems through all stages of a project from energy strategy and feasibility through to site completion. Projects will include the design of new build energy facilities as well as the improvement of existing ones.
Role
- Leading the design and implementation of medium to large scale energy systems, such as large steam or hot water boilers, heat distribution networks, controls, plant-rooms, thermal storage, fuel storage, etc.;
- Leading the design and delivery of on-site power generation and distribution systems, including selection of prime movers, plant sizing, etc.;
- Emphasis on energy generating plant (Industrial and CHP);
- Integration of thermal and electrical energy generation into building developments;
- Commercial evaluation of different energy systems;
- Producing high quality reports and presentations in clear English;
- Managing the production of drawings, reports and specifications;
- Surveying and evaluating existing buildings and energy systems;
- Keeping up to date with developments in the energy secto;
- Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines;
- Client and external team liaison;
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Energy Engineering;
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral);
- Have achieved full corporate membership and Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate professional institution such as the Energy Institute or the Institute of Mechanical Engineers;
- Aspire to excellence;
- Extensive and proven understanding of: building integrated and utility scale energy systems; building energy performance and efficiency standards; regulatory drivers of energy and carbon efficiency across a range of project scales;
- Familiarity with utility arrangements in the UK – licensing and other constraints;
- Proven understanding of the prices of energy in different forms and at different times;
- Strong commercial awareness and an interest in economics as well as engineering;
- Knowledge of BREEAM & LEED;
- Extensive and proven knowledge and experience of energy centre mechanical services design, such as district heating, power generation, CHP and renewables;
- Familiar with and capable of undertaking design of energy distribution systems including hot water, steam and chilled water;
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and a good awareness of building design beyond own discipline;
- Experience of leading teams on multi-disciplinary projects;
- Ability to quickly develop successful client relationships;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines is essential;
- Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills;
- Highly motivated and willing to take on new challenges.
