ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences (www.icfo.eu) and "la Caixa (http://obrasocial.lacaixa.es/) are teaming up for the International Fellowship Program "la Caixa" – Severo Ochoa, offering 2 PhD-fellowships to well-qualified graduate students who wish to obtain a doctoral degree at ICFO.
Description
The selected students are enrolled in the PhD Program @ ICFO. They have access to cutting-edge experimental infrastructures, specialized seminars, tailor-made training programs and active mentoring by ICFO Group Leaders. Entrepreneurship, commercialization techniques and seminars in the area of professional and personal development are also an integral part of the curricula.

ELIGIBILITY
The International Fellowship Program "la Caixa" – Severo Ochoa @ ICFO welcomes applications from individuals with backgrounds in any scientific disciplines related to the research conducted at ICFO.
In order to be eligible, candidates must comply with the following requirements:
- Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Master-equivalent degree (or evidence of its completion before October 2015). The degree must be in a field of science and engineering related to optics and photonics. Suitable backgrounds include optics, physics, mathematics, electronics, engineering, chemistry and biology.
- Prior to the deadline for application, candidates should not have participated in a PhD research stay at ICFO with a cumulative duration exceeding 6 months.
- Candidates must provide the complete documentation requested for the application.
Selection for the International Fellowship Program "la Caixa" – Severo Ochoa @ ICFO is based on merit and potential, measured in terms of academic record and personal achievements. Proactivity, participation in community activities, and capacity for team-work are also taken into account.

CONDITIONS
Starting in September/ October 2015, the positions are offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of four years. Renewal is subject to satisfactory performance in the PhD studies and related research activities, evaluated annually by the Thesis Director and the ICFO PhD Committee.
ICFO provides an environment that encourages scientific discussion, exchange of ideas, and deepening of knowledge. ICFO PhD-students take part in research as an integral part of their scientific and technical training, with the aim of obtaining a doctoral degree. They are integrated into on-going research activities of an ICFO research group, and are supervised by the corresponding Group Leader.
